EMC Tests for Automotive

Automotive EMC testing is the process of measuring the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of an automobile and its components. Every part, from car radios to engines, needs to be tested to see how electromagnetic fields interact and whether any parts produce electromagnetic interference (EMI). EMC testing is now becoming more important as automotive RF design becomes more complex and manufacturers integrate 4G, WiFi and Bluetooth technology into their cars. Emerging markets, such as electric and automatic cars, contribute to this complexity in design. When an instrument panel communicates with each other, RF noise and emissions are filled with active ingredients that generate potential EMI sources.

Basic EMC Tests in Automotive

For cars, EMI testing is required for both EMI immunity and EMI emission levels; They are divided into four different types:

  • Radiated Emissions (RE),
  • Conducted Emissions (CE),
  • Radiated Immunity (RI),
  • Conducted Immunity (CI).
