CISPR 15 / EN 55015
(CISPR 15 is an international standard that defines electromagnetic compatibility emissions requirements of the electrical/electronic lighting products. EN 55015 is European version of the standard which is used for Europe.)
Latest version of CISPR 15 is Edition 9.0 (CISPR 15:2018). It is published by IEC on 15 May 2018. It is defining EMC emissions requirements for lighting products between 9 kHz and 1 GHz. You will find most of the essential details of this standard on this page. Tests, test setup requirements and more…
CISPR 15 lists the EMC emissions requirements for lighting equipments. Conducted Emissions, Magnetic Field Emissions, Radiated Emissions tests and required levels are listed on this product specific EMC standard.
About IEC CISPR 15
CISPR 15 applies to the emission (radiated and conducted) of radiofrequency disturbances from:
– lighting equipment
– the lighting part of multi-function equipment where this lighting part is a primary function (Examples are lighting equipment with visible)
– light communication, entertainment lighting
– UV and IR radiation equipment for residential and non-industrial applications
– advertising signs (Examples are neon tube advertising signs)
– decorative lighting; – emergency signs.
Title of CISPR 15 is Limits and methods of measurement of radio disturbance characteristics of electrical lighting and similar equipment
CISPR 15 is published by IEC and recent version is Edition 3.9 which is published on 15 May 2018.
EMC Tests listed under CISPR 15
There are three different test categories in CISPR 15. All of these tests are emissions tests and measured signals are compared with the given limits.
1. Conducted Emissions
2. Magnetic Field Emissions
3. Radiated Emissions
Test Name | Test Parameters | Reference Test Standard | Test Port |
Conducted Emissions (Conducted disturbance voltages) |
9kHz-30MHz | CIPR 16-2-1 |
AC or DC electric power supply interface terminals Wired network interfaces other than power supply |
Magnetic Field Emissions (Radiated Disturbance)* | 9kHz-30MHz | CISPR 16-2-3 | Enclosure |
Radiated Emissions (Radiated-field disturbance) |
Choose one of these test methods: 1) OATS or SAC at 10m: 30-37 dB(μV/m) 30 MHz-1 GHz 2) OATS or SAC at 3m: 40-47 dB(μV/m) 30 MHz-1 GHz 3) FAR at 3 m: 42…35-42 dB(μV/m) 30 MHz-1 GHz 4) TEM-waveguide: 30-37 dB(μV/m) 30 MHz-1 GHz 5) CDNE method: 64-51 dB(μV) 30 MHz-300MHz* |
Apply the one corresponds your test method: 1) CISPR 16-2-3 |
Enclosure |
* If the EUT is incapable of generating a large magnetic dipole moment, then no test is required and the EUT is deemed to comply with the radiated-field disturbance limits in the frequency range of 9 kHz to 30 MHz.
** The CDNE method and the associated limits up to 300 MHz can be only applied for EUTs with clock frequencies below or equal to 30 MHz. In such a case, the product is deemed to comply with the requirements between 300 MHz and 1 000 MHz. The CDNE-limits between 200 MHz and 300 MHz specified in the standard are more stringent than the limits given in previous version of CISPR 15. An increasing margin (up to 10 dB at 300 MHz) has been applied between 200 MHz and 300 MHz. If the CDNE test fails, then any of the other methods and associated limits can still be applied. When the CDNE method is used and all clock frequencies of the EUT are below or equal to 30 MHz, then the product is deemed to comply with the requirements between 300 MHz and 1000 MHz if the emissions comply with the limits in the 30 MHz to 300 MHz frequency range as specified in the standard.
TEM-waveguide
One of the test methods for radiated emissions tests between 30MHz and 1GHz. This test mothod is more economical when compared to SAC or FAR which requires an anechoic chamber at the laboraratory. Instead of anechoic chamber, TEM cells or relevant compliant test cells can be used. To use a test cell for compliance testing according to CISPR 15, test cell shall be fully compliant with IEC 61000-4-20. Inner sizes of test cells are limited and EUT sizes shall be taken into account when choosing the right model.
