ETSI EN 300 328 is a Harmonised European Standard for radio equipments / devices operating in the 2.4 GHz. Full title of the standard is

Wideband transmission systems;
Data transmission equipment operating in the 2,4 GHz band;
Harmonised Standard for access to radio spectrum

Since ETSI standards are free of charge you can visit official ETSI web site and download any standard published by ETSI. Here is the latest version of ETSI EN 300 328:

Scope

ETSI EN 300 328 is applied for CE marking of radio equipments according to Radio Equipment Directive (RED, 2014/53/EU). It applies to Wideband Data Transmission equipment and describes spectrum access requirements to facilitate spectrum sharing with other equipment.
Service frequency bands of radio equipments under this standard is given below:
Transmit: 400 MHz to 2 483,5 MHz
Receive: 400 MHz to 2 483,5 MHz

ETSI EN 300 328 tests are applied to many radio equipments that we use in our daily lives

Radio equipments using Ultra Wide Band (UWB) technology is not covered by ETSI EN 300 328.

Definitions

In order to understand ETSI EN 300 328 and the tests listed on this standard, definitions are essential. Here are some of them which is listed on the standard.

adaptive equipment: equipment using a mechanism which allows it to adapt to its radio environment by identifying frequencies that are being used by other equipment

adjacent channel: channels on either side of the nominal channel separated by the Nominal Channel Bandwidth

Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) equipment: equipment using a frequency hopping technique in which it occupies a number of frequencies in time, each for some period of time, referred to as the dwell time

wideband data transmission equipment: equipment using modulation or spreading techniques resulting in a wideband signal

Equipment types

ETSI EN 300 328 defines types of radio equipment. Before testing, categories of the product has to be specified according to given definitions.

There are two categories of Wideband Data Transmission equipment:

  1. FHSS equipment
  2. Non-FHSS equipment

ETSI EN 300 328 covers both

  1. Adaptive equipment
  2. Non-adaptive equipment

Three categories are defined for receiver :

Receiver category 1

  • Adaptive equipment with a maximum RF output power greater than 10 dBm e.i.r.p.)

Receiver category 2

  • non-adaptive equipment with a Medium Utilization (MU) factor greater than 1 % and less than or equal to 10 % (irrespective of the maximum RF output power); or
  • equipment (adaptive or non-adaptive) with a maximum RF output power greater than 0 dBm e.i.r.p. and less
    than or equal to 10 dBm e.i.r.p.

Receiver category 3

  • non-adaptive equipment with a maximum Medium Utilization (MU) factor of 1 % (irrespective of the maximum RF output power); or
  • equipment (adaptive or non-adaptive) with a maximum RF output power of 0 dBm e.i.r.p.

After specifying the equipment categories, measurements and tests are applied to the Equipment Under Test (EUT).
