When you operate an electrical device from mains, it can be affected from voltage variations or interruptions. In order to simulate this condition, one of the EMC tests, Voltage Dips and Short Interruptions tests are applied to the device. These tests are categorised under immunity tests since immunity or performance levels are defined.

How to simulate Voltage Dips? How to generate Voltage Interruptions? In order to simulate these voltage changes, generators are used. The generator has to comply with CISPR standards, if you would like to have a full compliance testing.

One of the well known standards for Voltage Dips and Short Interruptions is IEC 61000-4-11. Title of this standard is as follows:

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) – Part 4-11: Testing and measurement techniques – Voltage dips, short interruptions and voltage variations immunity tests for equipment with input current up to 16 A per phase

There is a current limit for IEC 61000-4-11. If your product or Equipment Under Test (EUT) is drawing current under 16A IEC 61000-4-11 is applicable for your product.

AXOS 8 with DIP 116 option

The AXOS 8- Voltage Dips is a two-unit test system that combines the AXOS 8 and the DIP 116. This system will automatically perform AC voltage dips at 0/40/70/80[%] of V input. An integrated single phase coupling decoupling network (CDN) allows for EMC testing applications up to 16A. If DC voltage testing is required, only the AXOS 8 is necessary. The AXOS 8- Voltage Dips can also be capable of performing 5kV EFT/Burst, 7kV Combination Wave (1.2/50us & 8/20us), 7kV Ring Wave, 7kV Telecom Wave (10/700us) and Pulsed Magnetic Field tests via software and/or hardware upgrades. The expandable functionality allows for quick and completely automated testing to the most common IEC, EN, ANSI, IEEE and UL standards. The AXOS unit can either be operated via front panel by large color graphic interface or remotely from the PC. The easy to use menu together with the availability of predefined test routines for different standards makes testing easy and reliable, even for less frequently users. Numerous additional functions such as external start/stop function allows easy integration of the test system also in customer specific test environments.
